Davis, Holbrook Reineman

Holbrook Reineman Davis was born on May 10, 1921, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Edward Kirk Davis and Rhea Ada Reineman. Davis attended Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh, public school in Osterville, Massachusetts, and Le Rosey in Rolle, Switzerland. He later entered Harvard University with the Class of 1943, where he studied geography. He left Harvard and applied to become an ambulance driver with the American Field Service (AFS) in August 1942.  Davis sailed from New York in June, and arrived overseas in September, 1942 with unit ME 16.  He served with the British Eighth Army in North Africa and was repatriated to the United States in July 1943.

Following his service with AFS, Davis re-entered Harvard to complete his degree. He later assumed a teaching position in Switzerland, then returned to the United States to work in New York and Montreal until his retirement to Cape Cod, MA, in 1972.
