Illinois Ambulance Section

Most men sailed for France on May 19,1917 and were assigned to SSU 65.

The unit went to the training camp at May-en-Multien. First stationed with 68th division in Vendresse it went to the front on July 11th and was cantoned at Villiers-en Prayère until August 1st. The section was decorated with a divisional citation and received the Croix de Guerre. After a period en repos, the section went into active service at Paissy on August 20th until it was enlisted in the United States Army in September.

Some men returned to the United States, others enlisted for the duration of the war.
