Frank Emmet Barton was born on March 14, 1892 to Lula A. Reed and Michael J. Barton in Wabash, Indiana.

Barton was working as a saleman in real estate when he volunteered for the Field Service. He sailed for France in July 1917. He served four months as a camion driver with TMU 397 (Groupe Hémart) and on October 1, 1917 enlisted in the U.S. Army at Soissons.

On February 5, 1921 he married Viola B. Ernst (1900-1969).
The 1931 Directory of the AFS Association listed Barton as working for Matteson & Conran in Chicago, Illinois.

Frank Barton passed away on May 31, 1967 at Proviso, Illinois.
