Donald Joseph Bragg was born on March 2, 1917, in Rochester, New York, to William H. Bragg and Bessie Caple. Bragg attended Charlotte High School in Rochester, New York, and later worked as a floor manager at Sears, Roebuck and Co. He applied to become an ambulance driver with the American Field Service (AFS) in November 1941 and left for North Africa in January 1942 as a member of unit ME 2.  Upon arrival overseas he was attached to 485 Company.  Bragg was repatriated to the United States in February 1943, and reapplied to AFS in March. He went overseas again in July 1943 as a member of unit IB 5, and served with the British 14th Army in northeastern India and Burma. Bragg was repatriated to the United States in December 1944, and was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Africa Star with Eighth Army Clasp, and Burma Star for his service with during the war.

Donald Joseph Bragg married Elizabeth Ryan (1924-1985) in 1947. He passed away on December 23, 1996.
